Ray Zhu

As co-founder and CEO of AvanSight, Inc., Ray Zhu leads a company providing consulting and CRO services to biotech and pharmaceutical companies. In parallel, AvanSight is developing a state-of-the-art, data-driven decision-support system for the entire lifecycle of clinical studies. Prior to AvanSight, Dr. Zhu held leadership positions at global pharmaceutical companies including Allergan, Eisai, Sanofi-Aventis, Pfizer, and Schering-Plough. He headed departments responsible for biostatistics, statistical programming, and data management, and was involved in corporate clinical development decisions. Throughout his career, Dr. Zhu has secured global regulatory approvals for new therapies via accelerated and informative development programs. He has driven operational excellence by optimizing processes, standards, and data analysis automation through cross-functional collaboration. Furthermore, he has pioneered the application of advanced analytics, including real-world data and machine learning/AI, to enhance clinical trial design and decision-making. Dr. Zhu also worked at the US FDA in the Quantitative Methodology and Research Group of the Biometrics Division, where he reviewed subgroup methodologies and applied innovative quantitative methods to drug approvals. He holds a Ph.D. in Statistics from Stanford University and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Tsinghua University.
